Agilent 5977B GC/MSD

The Agilent 5977B GC/MSD (Gas Chromatograph–Mass Selective Detector) is a high-sensitivity quadrupole mass spectrometer coupled to a gas chromatograph, designed for the identification and quantification of organic compounds in complex mixtures. The system combines the separation power of gas chromatography (GC) with the specificity and sensitivity of mass spectrometry (MS), providing qualitative and quantitative data for a wide range of volatile and semi-volatile analytes. During analysis, sample components are first separated in the GC column, then ionized and fragmented in the mass spectrometer. The resulting ions are detected according to their mass-to-charge ratio (m/z), generating characteristic spectra that allow compound identification through comparison with spectral libraries (e.g., NIST, Wiley).
